Last week I saw this beautiful photo at Ellie’s Place. Colors and composition are just perfect and I felt in love with the capture. Ellie shared her shot straight out of the camera (SOOC) and even without any editing; her shot is revealing some talent behind the camera. Still, I am sure we are all aware that SOC shots don’t work every time and they need color correction and sharpening for web use. BTW Ellie was very generous and allowed me to use her photo for this post.
If you don’t have the newest and fanciest editing software installed on your computer(s), you shouldn’t feel like you’re missing something. Well, you are missing many things but unless your photography work is making enough money to cover the cost of THE software… I am sure you know what I want to say, right? Luckily, there are many free online photo editors that do a decent job. My favorite ones are Picnik and Photoshop Express and I generally recommend those to my family and friends. Of course, there are many more. This source gives a list of 10 very nice online editors and this one gives a list of 10 more!

Finally, just because I love PS that does not mean that other software may not do a good job, especially in retouching photos for blogs and social networks. Some of them do a brilliant job for a free online tool. To see how good they are, I have used two free tools (Picnik & Photoshop Express) and Adobe Lightroom & Adobe PS to do basic color correction and sharpening of Ellie’s photo. Conclusion: Not bad! : )
